Global Compact Agency – Pialla

Program Director

Pialla is an agency that promotes the ideas of the United Nations Global Compact by building education and entertainment programs for developing communities. It is funded and resourced by private enterprise and government agencies working in conjunction with community groups.

Responsibilities:

As Pialla Program Director the role involves developing, monitoring and refining the ongoing Pialla strategy and business plan. Additional responsibilities include creating and developing programs in consultation with communities and sponsors. The role also requires overseeing management and outcomes of projects.

Achievements:

  • Established Pialla as a Global Compact Agency
    for the United Nations in the Asia Pacific region
  • Developed website
  • Developed numerous projects including:

Project 1:

  • Pialla and Department of Aboriginal Affairs Travelling Film Show.
  • Successfully lobbied Department of Aboriginal Affairs to fund and undertake Pialla program
  • Create template for ongoing film show and income generating model for remote communities

Global Compact (GC) is a United Nations (UN) initiative designed to encourage businesses, in partnership with the UN, to promote human security in the broadest sense in developing nations. Global Compact Agency (GCA) is an Australian based agency to further the UN Global Compact initiative.

Achievements:

  • Developed a proposal outlining the feasibility of an agency in Australia to facilitate the marriage of business sponsorship and the establishment of community projects in developing markets
  • Proposal accepted and endorsed by the Head of the Global Compact division of the United Nations based at Head Office in New York.

Public Information Campaign Manager

Achievements:

  • Developed public awareness campaigns for the UN including sustainable development, disarmament, AIDS, refugees resulting in a significant increase of awareness of the UN and its numerous roles within the Asia Pacific region

Short St Gallery

Director/Facilitator

In conjunction with Short St Gallery and a number of Aboriginal Art Centres and Communities and exhibition was held to reach people who were previously unaware of the contemporary art movement emerging from some of Australia’s most remote regions.

Responsibilities:

Negotiate the space for main foyer of Australia Square, manage budget and expenditure, source sponsorship for event opening, devise publicity strategy and liase and host two Aboriginal Artists.

Achievements:

  • Blue chip companies recognised the value of the artworks and purchased pieces for their National Collections eg: Macquarie Bank, Qantas
  • Invited to do a similar style exhibition in London.

Editorial Assistant

Mad Magazine is an American based magazine targeted at adolescents, which has an annual distribution of 400,000.

Achievements:

  • Initiated and developed with Mushroom records the creation of a satirical/rock C.D to accompany “The Mask” issue of the magazine resulting in a 20% increase in monthly sales.
